On 26 October pupils from Antwerp’s Onze-Lieve-Vrouwecollege presented the result of months of preparation. Together with the Antwerp Cathedral Choir, they had been working on their own interpretation of Berlioz’ La Damnation de Faust.

Aviel Cahn will remain intendant of Flanders Opera for the next six years. The Board of Directors has unanimously expressed its confidence in Mr. Cahn and has prolonged his contract until the 2017-18 season. For the Swiss born intendant it will be the second term of office.

On Monday 10 September, a flash mob took commuters by surprise in Antwerp. When an unsuspecting lady threw a piece of paper into one of the litter bins, an opera chorus made up of street sweepers and police burst into song. The Youtube film rapidly became a hit, and was viewed over 200,000 times.

A few months ago the Flanders Opera Children’s Chorus was invited to participate in the recording of 'Do it Now'. The number is part of Nic Balthazar’s 'Sing for the climate' project. The aim of the project is to have as many people as possible singing the song on 22nd and 23rd September, to express their concerns about climate change. Start practising!

On Saturday 25th August the day finally arrived: ticket sales for the first three operas and all concerts in the 2012-2013 season started! The operas are La Damnation de Faust, Agrippina (only in Ghent) and Die Zauberflöte.

Ticket sales for a number of next season’s performances start on 7 July. As from that date, you can get tickets for all children’s performances (apart from Big Bang) and Saturday guided tours. Ticket sales for the first operas and concerts only start after the summer break, on 25 August.

The Flanders Opera box office is going on holiday for a few weeks in the summer. From Tuesday 10 July to Wednesday 15 August the box offices in both Antwerp and Ghent will be closed. They open again on Thursday 16 August.

On 20 April Leandra Overmann died after a short but serious illness. With her impressive vocal sound, stage presence and utter dedication, she left no one unmoved. The opera world has lost an exceptional individual and a great personality.
