Not one of the 2065 women who cross his path is capable of resisting Don Giovanni. Conscious of his limited time on earth, the master seducer wants to get the most he can out of life, no holds barred. But when he kills the father of his most recent conquest, Donna Anna, his fate appears to be sealed forever. His glory begins to fade, but when he disappears from the stage, the life of those around him also loses its colour.

Mozart’s leading man still appeals to our imagination. A real fortune seeker, he wants to give everyone a taste of life. For Don Giovanni, Mozart composed an exceptionally lively, multi-layered score, which pushes the dramatic action forward in a whirl. Director Guy Joosten tries to link this new production with his productions of Le Nozze di Figaro and Così fan tutte, which have grown into true classics.

The Belgian Guy Joosten needs no introduction: he has already produced a whole host of Mozart titles for Flanders Opera, alongside contemporary work like Rumor and Wozzeck. Alexander Joel, who in his dynamic orchestral direction of La Forza del Destino, had “the Flanders Opera Orchestra playing on tiptoe”, will now be directing Mozart for the first time in this opera house. In the lead roles we will be hearing the peerless Scottish bass-baritone Iain Paterson (Don Giovanni), the young Turkish soprano Burçu Uyar (Donna Anna) and Alastair Miles (Leporello), one of the finest British basses of his generation.

'Deh, vieni alla finestra' / Don Giovanni  (Mozart)
