St. Matthew Passion

22/03/2013 in Antwerp

Collegium Vocale Ghent Chorus and Orchestra / music

For several years nowPhilippe Herreweghe has adopted a new approach to the performance of Bach's religious vocal music. Central to the event are four vocal soloists who not only sing the arias, but also the choral parts, supplemented by two choral singers per voice. In combination with a strikingly modest baroque orchestra, the result is not only additional transparency, but also a more direct, expressive approach. Inthis concert he applies his latest insights to the unsurpassable peak of Bach's music, the St. Matthew Passion. This masterpiece will undoubtedly sound astonishing and seriously rejuvenated to our audiences.
