Easter concert

Together with the renowned Requiem, the never entirely completed Mass in C minor is the highlight of Mozart's religious oeuvre. Magnificent choruses, arias in the Italian style, impressive fugues worthy of Bach and the lighter touch of the ‘galant style’ fuse together to form a highly varied whole. Since this is so much more than music composed solely for the church, it is only natural that it is also performed in a concert hall.
For the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, Benjamin Britten's death in 1976 came like a bolt from the blue. 'It was just before his death that I started to appreciate the uncommon purity of his music,' said this deeply religious composer. Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten is a quiet 'in memoriam' for strings and a bell that is conceived as a canon. It is contemplative music full of luminous beauty and that is outside time.
